Shiny Ideas

You have them, we build them.

We like making websites. We get excited about the big picture, and obsessive about the little details. The most interesting projects require a balance of both.

Sites We've Made

Police State UK

Web design, development and social media

Police State UK is a news and opinion website focussing on issues relating to civil liberties, politics and policing.  Initially started in November 2006, the site just hosted links to a small selection of resources until April 2008 when it was relaunched as a news/blog style site, inviting the general public to submit articles on relevant issues.  The site has published over 100 articles since then, averaging slightly more than one per week.

The site runs on YAWNS, an open source content management system designed primarily for running a blog-style multi-author news website.  YAWNS was written by Denny in 2000, and is currently maintained by Steve Kemp of Debian Administration.

The design aims to be striking, clean and professional, featuring a prominent CCTV camera as a visual symbol of an oppressive state, and a custom illustration of the London skyline.

An accompanying Twitter account (@PoliceStateUK) was launched in 2009 and now has over 4,000 readers, putting it well into last year's top 100 most popular Twitter accounts dealing with UK politics (#53).
